Costumes & Properties

History

Several years ago the (then) Sault Community Theatre Centre gave the Sault Theatre Workshop, Musical Comedy Guild and the (now defunct) Sault Opera Society permission to store their costumes and hand properties in a large room under the theatre.

They have been lending the costumes out to various theatre groups free of charge ever since.

Please note that the Theatre Centre does not rent or loan costumes. We merely provide the space for their storage.

Problem

Most of the theatre groups have been very good at returning items clean and in good repair. However, some have abused the privilege.

The Solution

Because, under the terms of the storage agreement a rental fee cannot be charged, a deposit is required from all user groups. This deposit will be refunded after costumes and props are returned clean and in good repair. If necessary, the cost of cleaning, repairs, and/or replacement will be taken out of the deposit.

IT IS IMPORTANT TO RETURN THE COSTUMES AND PROPERTIES WITHIN TWO WEEKS OF THE END OF A PRODUCTION OR AN EVENT. Other groups may need these items.

The Deposit

$100.00 will be required from:

  •   All large theatrical groups;
  •   All groups outside the City of Sault Ste. Marie;
  •   All groups not producing at the Kiwanis Community Theatre Centre;
  •   Large school productions.

$50.00 will be required from:

  •   Small theatre groups (small casts);
  •   Theatre Arts, Dramatic Arts classes;
  •   Non-profit organizations (a donation would be appreciated!);

Restrictions

Loans are not available for:

  •   Personal use;
  •   Private parties;
  •   Commercial groups (subject to revision);
  •   Halloween rentals.

The costumes are strictly for the use of theatrical productions and non-profit organizations.

Help!!

Volunteers run this operation.

When costumes and props are returned, please help returning the articles to their proper racks after they have been checked off the master list. The maintenance of this service is coordinated by volunteer representative of the three groups that own the costumes. Your cooperation is essential if your groups wishes to use this service.
